Argonaut No. 9

The sculptures are named after the famous Greek hero Jason to illustrate how his winding quest for the golden fleece was fraught with many setbacks and frustrations. This is a great representation of how my sculptures are built from beginning to end– never restarting, but always adapting toward improvement. Flawed and disfigured wood is not discarded, but instead is accentuated with inlay to become moments of beauty and inspiration. My work recognizes how a person’s past becomes an integral part of their story, not to be hidden, but necessary to healing and growth. Despite overwhelming odds Jason and his Argonauts continued on their journey not being dissuaded by failures, but growing and ever moving forward. The myth and my artwork encapsulate the beauty found in the diversity between perfection and imperfection.

Dimensions: H24” x W19” x D6”

Materials: Cotton Cord, Polycrylic, Cherry, Cedar, Maple, Ash, Walnut
